Lewis Hamilton qualified 2nd in Abu Dhabi

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

Lewis Hamilton has been on fire throughout all the practice sessions. It looked like Lewis had the car hooked up perfectly and was going to have a blinder. He led all practice sessions by around half a second.

In qualifying Hamilton also looked supreme and continued to be on top in Q1 and Q2. Unfortunately in Q3 there was a bit more traffic on the second run (Alonso was about 2-3 seconds in front) and he didn’t manage to quite hook the lap up perfectly. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Lewis back fighting at the front. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s twilight race in Abu Dhabi!

Lewis Hamilton’s comments:

It would be nice to have had pole position, but that Red Bull, as always, is very quick in Q3! Still, we’ve got our car to a point where it works particularly well on certain tracks, and we always seem to go well here.

Lewis Hamilton is on pole in Korea

Lewis Hamilton has been looking very well on track in the free practice sessions and in qualifying. You can really see Lewis is looking awesome in the car right now and I hope he’ll have great race. He didn’t look to happy in the press conference but I think he knows that you only get points on Sunday. After a few race wins (and by beating Jenson in the championship) he should have his mojo back very quickly and things should progress well from there.

In the race, if he stays out in front and pulls away from the pack he’s got every chance of winning the race – and boy do we want him to win! I can’t wait for the race. Set the alarm clock. Go Lewis!

Throughout the year, I don’t think my qualifying performances have been too bad – it’s only in the last two races that I didn’t manage to get my final run in Q3 – so today’s result wasn’t entirely unexpected. Still, we’ve been quick as a team and never stopped making improvements to the car. I’m so, so proud of all the men and women both here at the circuit and back at Woking who’ve worked so hard to get us back to where we want to be.

Lewis Hamilton qualified 2nd at Monza

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Looks like it’s going to be a good race tomorrow! Can’t wait until the race!

Lewis Hamilton’s comments after Monza qualifying:

Clearly, we’re very competitive – Jenson and I both qualified in the top three – but Seb [Vettel] was mega-quick today. In Q1 and Q2 we were pretty close to him, but he pulled out another half-second in Q3. It was an extremely good lap.

Lewis Hamilton qualified 2nd in Germany

Lewis Hamilton’s comments after qualifying:

First of all I want to say a huge congratulations to the whole team, who did a great job today. Everyone back at the factory and here at the circuit has been working massively hard, and that’s the reason why the car was so quick today. I think we all underestimated how good the car would be, in fact.

Lewis Hamilton qualified 3rd in Valencia

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Lewis did well to qualify in 3rd position behind Vettel and Webber today, with Button only managing 6th.

Looking forward to an exciting and probably close race on the Valencia street circuit in Spain tomorrow. Lewis qualified much better than in the last few races so hopefully everything should go a lot smoother for him in the race tomorrow.

Lewis Hamilton’s comments after qualifying:

I’m excited to be in the fight: we can win from this position. Of course, we’ll need a bit of luck with the strategy and the pitstops, but our guys are on great form. You’ve got to be fortunate and maximise absolutely everything to get ahead of the Red Bulls – and, hopefully, that can happen tomorrow.

Lewis Hamilton Qualifies 4th in Turkey

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Lewis Hamilton after the Turkish qualifying:

“Definitely in the fight and pushing all the way”

We’re starting on the dirty side of the grid – so our biggest challenge tomorrow could be getting off the line. Every year here I’ve started on the dirty side here!

Mercedes GP and Ferrari have picked up their pace, and it might be hard to overtake the Mercedes GP because they’re very fast on the straights; so if it pans out like that, the Red Bulls could edge away from us.

Lewis Hamilton Qualified 2nd in Melbourne

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

I was really happy with my lap today. The car felt fantastic, and I owe it all to the guys back at the factory, in the design office and those building components. They need to give themselves a huge pat on the back. It was a brave decision to make such a dramatic change to the car, and a superb effort to deliver that change. An amazing turnaround!

However, although I was pleased with my performance today, my KERS Hybrid stopped working halfway round my final lap – I had 40 per cent left that I couldn’t deploy – but that would have been worth only an extra couple of tenths. Still, it’s good to know, because this car platform is now definitely something we can build upon.

Tomorrow is a long race and it won’t be won at the first corner. We need to take home some good points from this weekend because we know our car will only get better.

We still have some work to do, but I think the race is winnable from here – and I’ll be giving Sebastian [Vettel] the race of his life tomorrow!

Lewis Hamilton Qualifies 3rd in Spain

Lewis Hamilton in Spain

Lewis Hamilton did very well to qualify in 3rd position in Barcelona, Spain. The Red Bull cars seem to be a far superior package compared to the rest of the field with their Adrian Newey designed Formula 1 car.

Lewis Hamilton’s comments:

Lewis Hamilton Qualified 6th in China

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Lewis Hamilton qualified in 6th position in China and had the following to say:

I’m a little disappointed – we wanted to get pole today, and thought we could –, and I don’t really know where the time went in Q3.

The tyres felt fine – pretty much exactly the same as in Q1 and Q2, when the car felt great – but in Q3 the car started moving around a lot more, and it felt like the front was bottoming.

We’d been quick all weekend, but sixth was the best I could do in Q3. I think we ought to have been further up the grid – but we’ll fight our way as far up the field as we can tomorrow. I’m sure it will be a good race.

Hamilton Starts 20th in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton didn’t have the best of qualifyings for the Monaco grand prix by hitting the barrier with his left rear wheel in Qualifying 1, breaking the suspension. At least he did have a good timed lap in before which would nearly have gotten him through to Q2 (but he wouldn’t have been allowed to re-join in Q2 though).

This is very unfortunate as Lewis was doing very well in practice and looked to qualify in the top few positions. This could potentially have been the McLaren comeback by getting a podium. The new rear wing also seemed to help. The slight gap in the middle of the rear wing can be seem in the above image.
