Hamilton’s Opinion About The Spying Situation

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

This is what Lewis Hamilton had to say about the current spy saga between the McLaren Mercedes and Ferrari Formula 1 teams:

“Ferrari are being portrayed as the most innocent team. I do not think that is the case, I do not like what Ferrari are putting our team through. I know my team, and we are being been unfairly treated.

It would be a great feeling to win in Italy this weekend. Beating Ferrari on their home ground is going to be a huge blow to their team.

I am generally a relaxed kind of person and I am not usually rattled by anything or anyone. It is the way I have been brought up. I’ve never been rattled in my whole career so I don’t want to start that now.”

Hamilton Championship Charge Under Threat?

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

There has been a discovery of new evidence in the FIA spy saga, and McLaren have been invited to another hearing at the World Motor Sport Council in Paris.

That doesn’t sound too positive for Lewis Hamilton! Even though Lewis most definitely was not directly involved – he did still profit from a good car, if McLaren Mercedes was found to be guilty.

This would be a very sad situation – a new and very talented racing driver doing very well in his first Formula 1 season, getting caught up in the Formula 1 politics – only to find out near the end of the season that his team was not playing within the rules.

FIA Statement

“Following the receipt of new evidence the World Motor Sport Council has been reconvened for a hearing in Paris on September 13th.”

“In accordance with its decision of July 26th representatives of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have been invited to attend the hearing.”

“The FIA President’s referral of the matter to the International Court of Appeal has been withdrawn.”

McLaren Mercedes Statement

“McLaren Racing has been made aware that new evidence has been presented to the FIA as part of their on-going investigation.”

“As a result we have been informed that the Court of Appeal Hearing scheduled for the 13th September in Paris will now comprise a meeting of the WMSC.”

“McLaren will continue to co-operate fully with the FIA.”

It would be interesting to see what happens now…

Hamilton, Alonso & Hakkinen in Funny Mercedes-Benz Advert

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Mika Hakkinen star in this funny Mercedes-Benz commercial.

Hopefully Alonso and Hamilton will be getting along again soon as their relationship has recently turned sour.

Enjoy: :-)

I hope the fun comes back into Formula 1 as it seems too serious at the moment. I know there’s a lot of money involved – but lets not have that spoil the spirit of Formula 1!

Alonso Allowed To Leave McLaren-Mercedes

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

McLaren Mercedes team boss Ron Dennis has apparently told Fernando Alonso that he is free to leave the team at the end of the year.

Fernando seems to be unhappy that there is an equal driver status is the team, and being world champion he deserves to have the number 1 driver status – especially with a rookie in the team. Unfortunately for him it’s Lewis Hamilton – who has performed extremely well and is leading the Formula 1 Championship by 7 points.

There have been some negative headlines as well as neutral headlines regarding this issue. But you’ve gotta give Alonso a break too, after all – he IS world champion. Maybe the McLaren team mentality isn’t for him (and possibly Lewis too).

Well, I just can’t wait to see what happens at the next race…

Hamilton And Alonso Not Talking Anymore

Monday, August 6th, 2007

McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says that Fernando Alonso isn’t talking to him anymore.

Well that’s too bad. But seriously, Lewis, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. After all, Fernando’s the one that stopped Hamilton getting pole position in the first place by blocking him in the pit lane. Lewis would have most probably taken pole anyway. I think what Fernando did was pretty childish, first he was stopping his team-mate which is already pretty stupid because if you’re working against your own team – you’ve pretty much lost anyway, and later when he was punished for his actions he blames it on Lewis. How childish is that!!

And Ron’s all upset because apparently Lewis wasn’t following every single instruction the he gave him, I mean, c’mon, Lewis isn’t a puppet. He can make is own decisions. And by the looks of it, Ron Dennis also seems to rate that a bigger crime against the team than one driver deliberately blocking another driver! Whatever happened to Ron’s: “we let our drivers race” attitude. (Even though what Lewis apparently did, this seems like a relatively small incident to me). Now, that’s unjust IMO! It just seems like a weak excuse.

Anyway, there must be a lot of other stuff going on behind the scenes to let the whole situation boil over like it has. It seems like Alonso is under real pressure for the first time in his career and he isn’t handling himself like a champion. Instead, it seems like he’s trying to make less of Lewis in some ways – for instance saying that Hamilton’s podium finishes will come to an end soon etc., which seems a negative thing to say against your own team-mate.

Regarding the stewards intervening, well, I think it was correct because these kinds of actions are harming the integrity of the sport. It was easy to see that Lewis was denied pole position by Fernando, and he wasn’t demonstrating great sportsmanship.

Personally I wasn’t too happy about it – not only because I’m a Lewis Hamilton fan, but because it’s not moral. Imagine any other driver in any other team doing this, I’m sure most people wouldn’t like it, it seems anti-competitive!

Lets keep the sport on the track – and out of the courts!

Okay, that’s my rant for the day :) please leave comments to express your own opinions.

Ferrari Appeals to WMSC

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Ferrari Formula One Racing Team can appeal to the The World Motor Sport Council’s (WMSC) ruling which found Vodafone McLaren Mercedes guilty of possessing confidential Ferrari documents, but has not given a penalty as there was deemed to be insufficient evidence that the team had benefited from the data in any way.

McLaren Mercedes responded to Max Mosley’s decision to allow Ferrari to appeal: “Having considered in great detail the full submissions of both Ferrari and McLaren, the World Motorsport Council determined that there was no evidence that any information, passed by a Ferrari team member to a McLaren employee, had been brought into the organisation or provided any benefit whatsoever to the McLaren programme, McLaren is not aware of any new information or arguments that have arisen since the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council and therefore assumes that these same materials will now be considered by the FIA International Court of Appeal. Whilst this is both disappointing and time-consuming, McLaren is confident that the FIA International Court of Appeal will also exonerate McLaren and we will in the meanwhile continue to focus on our current world championship programme.”

Let’s hope that Lewis Hamilton won’t suffer from the forthcoming ruling in the court of appeal!!

Hamilton Gets Payrise

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Lewis was granted a pay rise by leading the Formula 1 Championship mid-way.

Lewis Hamilton has been granted a pay-rise after reaching the middle of the 2007 season as F1′s championship leader. The impressive and ultra-consistent British rookie started the season with a modest retainer of about (US) $400,000 and a $10,000 per point bonus.

As of the British grand prix, then, he made his first million. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, however, a clause in his contract was triggered at Silverstone, the ninth round of the season.

As he passed the half-way point of 2007 at the very top of the drivers’ world championship, Hamilton automatically qualified for a cool $2.3m bonus. If he scores another 50 points in the remaining eight races this year, Hamilton’s initially paltry salary will have ballooned to nearly $4m ” disregarding any more contractual bonuses for possibly winning the title. Nice work if you can get it!
