To Appeal Or Not To Appeal

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

According to some news reports Vodafone McLaren Mercedes intend to appeal against the decision to take no action against Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld because the evidence that their used fuel that was cooler than the regulations permit was inconclusive. To be honest I don’t understand why cooler fuel would be an advantage, if somebody knows please tell me.

Anyway, both Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have said that they would not want to take the Championship away from Kimi like this.

Lewis Hamilton had this to say:

I heard about it, but I don’t know anything about it, I don’t believe that I will be promoted up the order.

I think everyone did a great job, and what can you really say to that? If they You want to win the race and do it in style. Being promoted after some people have been thrown out is not the way I want to win it. I don’t know, it would feel weird after Kimi did such a fantastic job in the last two races and won on Sunday. If they are wrong, they are wrong.

But I want to win on the track. Having it taken away would be a bit cruel and probably not good for the sport. It’s tough on everybody – but there’s another year, I’m only 22, and there are going to be plenty more opportunities for me to win the championship.

I have no doubt that we can do that in the future. Last night was good. Ron made a speech and we had a great evening and rounded off the year. I’m extremely proud of them, I’m extremely proud of my family and everyone who has supported me to get me to where I am today.

It has been a phenomenal season and the support of the team has been overwhelming. It was just a pleasure to be part of.

Let’s see what happens. But as Hamilton said, it’s been a great year for him. This was only his first season and he’ll have plently more opportunities to win the Formula 1 World Championship.

Lewis Hamilton’s Big Day

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Today is Lewis Hamilton’s big day! He has the potential to be Formula 1 Driver World Champion – and the youngest ever at that, as well as the first driver to win the F1 Championship in his first season!

Now those records will not be be beaten anytime soon!

We wish Lewis a fun race – hopefully he can win the world championship with a win, but if he’s second or third we can’t really complain – (have you noticed, he’s spoiling us! If he’s not even on the podium it would be a bit of a let down).

Let’s look forward to an awesome race – hopefully the most best and most exciting of the year!!

Hamilton Escapes Penalty

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Luckily Lewis escaped a penalty for using two sets of wet tires in the first practice session (you’re only allowed one set), but the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team was fined €15,000, that’s approx. £10,000.

That’s good news for Hamilton as he’s fighting for the Formula 1 Drivers World Championship – and it was a team error, as admitted by Ron Dennis. That seems fair enough.

Lewis Hamilton Ready For Interlagos, Brazil

Monday, October 15th, 2007

F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton says that he’s ready to race for the Formula 1 Championship in Brazil, and the past is in the past.

Here’s what Hamilton had to say:

China was another valuable lesson for me this season, and an incident I will take from and try to develop as a driver, I moved on from the disappointment pretty quickly and since leaving Shanghai, my sole focus has been on Brazil.

Whilst I might be ahead by four points, this championship is still very open. I will do what I can to score the points I need, and the rest is out of our hands. Interlagos is one of those circuits that everybody talks about, I understand it has a fantastic atmosphere, the fans are crazy for the sport, and the track lends itself to great racing.

It is another new circuit for me, and there has been a lot of talk by other people about how it is tricky to drive. That’s why I see it as a special challenge and when I arrive at the track on Wednesday I will study it hard with my engineers and start to get an understanding of it.

I’ve had some great races with the team this year, and I hope to have another one in Interlagos.

FIA Keeps Eye On McLaren In Brazil

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

The FIA are taking measures to monitor the McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team in Interlagos, Brazil – the deciding and final race for the Formula One Driver World Championship.

The McLaren team issued a statement, once again, that Alonso and Hamilton will have equal driver status.

We can confirm that the FIA is in the process of appointing a special scrutineer for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Looking forward to the final showdown next weekend. :-)

No Penalty For Lewis Hamilton

Friday, October 5th, 2007

No penalty has been given to Lewis Hamilton‘s “not being 10 car lengths behind the safety car”. Which some people think, mainly Vettel & Webber, caused the two Red Bull sponsored cars to collide together behind the safety car.

I’m glad the F1 authorities didn’t overreact as it’s a fairly minor incident and people are trying to make a big thing out of it. If Lewis was supposed to stay 10 car lengths behind, why didn’t the car behind Hamilton also keep some more distance! I mean – it’s common sense! The car’s behind couldn’t see much anyway and the safety car wasn’t on it’s way in, so there’s no reason to be so close together.

Ok, enough of the politics – let’s have some awesome racing, please!

Formula 1 Driver Championship Decided In China?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

With the first Chinese free practice session only approx. 28.5 hours away, my excitement and enthusiasm level is rising because Lewis Hamilton can potentially be the youngest Formula 1 World Champion ever!

Lewis is 12 points ahead of Fernando Alonso with only 2 races to go (20 points max.), in other words if Lewis finishes 2nd, or if he just keeps Fernando behind him Mr. Hamilton is world champion! (Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s getting late here :) )

I’ll be looking forward to how Lewis copes with the Chinese F1 circuit – which will be new to him. But looking back over the year this has never been a problem for Lewis.

GO Lewis!

The Hamilton And Alonso Story Continues

Friday, September 28th, 2007

A few turbulent weeks for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team during the FIA hearings resulted in McLaren to loose its constructor points and having to pay a $100 million fine for breaking the sporting rules.

I can imagine that some (or most) people in the McLaren team are not very satisfied with Fernando Alonso who reportedly tried to get Ron Dennis to give him No.1 driver status by threatening to tell the FIA about the spying which McLaren was doing – and this is effectively treason with his own team (not that spying is ok either – but 2 wrongs don’t make a right, or so the saying goes…).

So, Lewis Hamilton is upset about that whole situation, that Alonso is demanding No.1 driver status without real racing on the track and the way he was blocked at Spa. And Lewis has spoken out again against Frenando stating that the team is behind him because his fully supports the team and relationship is getting stronger all the time.

Here’s what Lewis had to say:

When you are in a relationship with a certain amount of people, you do the best job you can and want to show to everyone that you are the one for the team. In this situation, I was a rookie and he was the two-time world champion coming into the team.

He is the one that was looked at to bring it home, but eventually I have earned more respect from them. And since what’s gone on in the last few weeks they’ve realised who the real people are in the team and who they really should back.

I feel my bond with the team is even stronger. I want to win it fair and square, not once have I approached the team members and asked to be favoured. It is just not something I have done at any team, asking for better equipment. I want to win it the right way.

The best feeling ever is when you know you have won and you have beaten someone as talented as he is with the exact same equipment and exactly the same opportunity. You try to understand these people but then the whole idea of what sort of person they are is completely miles out of the ball park, he is not the person I imagined him to be, but that’s the way it is.

Hamilton Keeps Championship Points

Friday, September 14th, 2007

The FIA’s verdict did not cancel Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 World Championship points. But the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team has been excluded from the World Championship – causing it to lose out on $100 million of constructors prize money!

Now, if you ask me – $100 million isn’t exactly pocket change, how is this going to affect McLaren? Will next year’s car not be as competitive?

Obviously McLaren will keep on fighting in the championship as either of their drivers has a very strong possibility to win.

But you have to ask yourself about the honesty and integrity in Formula 1. Stuff like that must have been going on for quite some time – maybe even since the beginning of Formula 1, but now people are shocked when some things regarding spying on other teams is present in the media. They shouldn’t be! Of course I would prefer it if the sport is 100% clean – but with the sums of money involved it’s probably easier to be tempted to gain an advantage, nearly no matter how.

Whatever the real truths are, I just enjoy watching Lewis Hamilton race. It’s as simple as that! And I hope you do too.

McLaren & Hamilton At FIA World Motor Sport Council

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Formula 1 World Championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, will be attending the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris today. Ron Dennis, who’s team could suffer consequences as there is new evidence in the espionage case with Ferrari.

Pedro de la Rosa will also be present, Fernando Alonso is not in Paris but will be at the official pre-event press conference at the Belgian Grand Prix this afternoon.

McLaren Mercedes’ world championship points may be deducted or eligibility to compete in future races, but which ever way this all ends – it hasn’t been to good for McLaren or Formula 1.

I’m looking forward to the Belgian Grand Prix – I know Lewis Hamilton is.
