Lewis Hamilton didn’t have the best of qualifyings for the Monaco grand prix by hitting the barrier with his left rear wheel in Qualifying 1, breaking the suspension. At least he did have a good timed lap in before which would nearly have gotten him through to Q2 (but he wouldn’t have been allowed to re-join in Q2 though).
This is very unfortunate as Lewis was doing very well in practice and looked to qualify in the top few positions. This could potentially have been the McLaren comeback by getting a podium. The new rear wing also seemed to help. The slight gap in the middle of the rear wing can be seem in the above image.

Lewis Hamilton finished just outside the points with a 9th position in Barcelona, Spain.
Given that he started from 14th it is a good improvement, though no points is a disappointment to Lewis, McLaren and the fans – but everybody understands that the car desperately needs to be improved.

Lewis Hamilton qualified in 14th position for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona tomorrow.
The updates to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 racing car didn’t seem to help Lewis or Kovalainen, who qualified in 18th position. I think the main reason the updated parts haven’t had a bigger impact is that the parts could not be tested on the track and there were only a few improvements to the car relative to other teams who brought larger changes.
Last year Lewis started in 5th position and finished on the podium – but this year he hasn’t got the kind of car to do it in.

Lewis Hamilton had a fantastic race in Bahrain finishing in 4th position.
As predicted, Lewis had a great run-up at the start of the race and even briefly managing to get into second position. Hamilton did very well throughout the race to hang on to the Toyota and Red Bull cars, with help of the KERS system. It looks like McLaren are getting it together and there are certain visible improvements. Lets hope they can get more updates before the race in Barcelona and throughout the season.

Lewis Hamilton is improving further this weekend by qualifying 5th in Bahrain.
Things seem to be getting better overall for Vodafone Mercedes McLaren with Lewis being fastest in the first practice session and also Kovalainen improving by qualifying in 11th. This shows that the team is doing a good job relative to the other teams and will hopefully continue to do so.
Toyota is the team to beat this weekend who were very strong by taking 1st and 2nd grid position. The Red Bull’s are still going very strong starting 3rd and 4th. Hamilton did a great job by splitting up the Brawn cars.

April 19th, 2009 Lewis Hamilton finished the Chinese grand prix in Shanghai in 6th position, after starting from 9th position.

As the rain started to pour we knew Lewis is in for a good chance. After the safety car start Lewis managed to get up into 5th position with some great overtaking manovures, includeing a few on Kimi Raikkonen. Unfortunately the conditions were ever changeing and there was standing water on certain parts of the circuit which cought Hamilton out and thur spinning a few times. He did well to get back through the field and finished in 6th position which isn’t a bad result overall.
Lewis’ view on the race
It was almost too difficult to drive at the beginning of the race. I found a good pace and had some fun in the opening laps, but unfortunately destroyed my tyres quite early on.
I made a few too many mistakes today. It was very slippery and my front-left tyre was finished long before the end but I still gave it my best. This afternoon was a real struggle but I’m glad I got some points for the team.

April 18th, 2009 Lewis Hamilton qualifies in 9th position for the Chinese F1 race.
McLaren’s previously steady progress away from the lower midfield seems to have been accelerated by its own interim diffuser and new front wing as Lewis Hamilton made the pole shoot-out for the first time in 2009, eventually claiming ninth.
It looks likely that it will rain in Shanghai, China which will give Lewis a good chance to move through the field.
