Lewis Hamilton thanks the assembled workforce back in Woking for working so hard to give him a race-winning car in Hungary:
In this video, the McLaren Head of Vehicle Engineering, Mark Williams gives insight into why the car hasn’t worked so far and the fact they think they’ve finally grasped what they now need to do to get back on the podium.
Although it was a disappointing race for the team, the fans really made Lewis’s weekend and Silverstone is such an exciting venue, he just can’t imagine the next season without it
Lewis Hamilton’s 16th place in Sunday’s British Grand Prix was a stark contrast to his victory at Silverstone in 2008. But as development of the McLaren MP4-24 continues, the reigning champion insists there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, he’s looking forward to driving Ayrton Senna’s MP4-4 at the forthcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, as he explained to his official site…
Q: Not the best result in front of your home fans – was it a tough race?
Lewis Hamilton: Yes, it was a difficult afternoon for the whole team, but we knew that going into the weekend. I had some exciting moments out on the racetrack and really enjoyed my race. And while the result didn’t look so good for us, again, I think we can take some positives away from this weekend because we genuinely learnt a lot about our car. It’s still not going to be a night-and-day change that makes the difference, but I’m hoping that we can gain some advantage to help improve our results.

Lewis Hamilton made the best of the weekend in Turkey where the car was still not up to par, qualifying in 16th. He said he enjoyed racing in the mid-field which he was not used to doing much before. At least he’s enjoying it and still learning more.

Lewis Hamilton finished in 12th position in the Monaco F1 race after qualifying 20th.
Hamilton’s comments after the race:

Lewis Hamilton didn’t have the best of qualifyings for the Monaco grand prix by hitting the barrier with his left rear wheel in Qualifying 1, breaking the suspension. At least he did have a good timed lap in before which would nearly have gotten him through to Q2 (but he wouldn’t have been allowed to re-join in Q2 though).
This is very unfortunate as Lewis was doing very well in practice and looked to qualify in the top few positions. This could potentially have been the McLaren comeback by getting a podium. The new rear wing also seemed to help. The slight gap in the middle of the rear wing can be seem in the above image.
This exclusive video shows breakthrough in the McLaren Mercedes rear wing which has shaved off between 0.3 and 0.4 seconds a lap compared to the car which raced in Barcelona and you also hear exclusively from Martin Whitmarsh, the Team Principal for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton finished just outside the points with a 9th position in Barcelona, Spain.
Given that he started from 14th it is a good improvement, though no points is a disappointment to Lewis, McLaren and the fans – but everybody understands that the car desperately needs to be improved.
