Hamilton Starts 20th in Monaco
May 24th, 2009
Lewis Hamilton didn’t have the best of qualifyings for the Monaco grand prix by hitting the barrier with his left rear wheel in Qualifying 1, breaking the suspension. At least he did have a good timed lap in before which would nearly have gotten him through to Q2 (but he wouldn’t have been allowed to re-join in Q2 though).
This is very unfortunate as Lewis was doing very well in practice and looked to qualify in the top few positions. This could potentially have been the McLaren comeback by getting a podium. The new rear wing also seemed to help. The slight gap in the middle of the rear wing can be seem in the above image.
Hamilton was going to start from 16th position but is has been announced that the gearbox had to be changed due to the accident and therfore Lewis will start from the back of the grid in 20th position.
I’d suspect that he’ll go for a 1 stop strategy as overtaking is nearly impossible in Monaco. Who knows, as anything can happen in the race.
Good luck Lewis!

I think it is over 51 – 9 . Thats five races you have to win with Button having bad fortune. I really would like to say I am not giving up yet but its hard. Monaco is my favorite race and this year it was boring. Lets see what we can salvage from the season
Been a fan of LH ever since he started in F1. We know the title is out of reach this season but just go on racing and do the best you can Lewis. Put the past behind you and take it as a learning experience. Your die hard fans would not like to see you give up…
