Hamilton On Pole – Alonso Demoted To 6th
August 5th, 2007Lewis Hamilton was awarded the pole position in Hungary after the stewards deemed Alonso impeded Hamilton’s chances of taking pole position (which he obviously did!). Fernando Alonso is now starting from 6th position; McLaren Mercedes will also not earn any constructors points from either car this weekend.
Team principal Ron Dennis also told reporters after qualifying that the mix-up began because Hamilton didn’t follow instructions to allow Alonso past during the fuel-burning phase of Q3, thus throwing the McLarens out of sequence.
Now Mr. Dennis, that’s not very cool – publicly blaming one of your drivers even though they probably didn’t do anything wrong!
