It was an interesting race today with Lewis overtaking Sebastian Vettel early in the race and leading for a good part of the race. Unfortunately it didn’t quite work out for Hamilton as he went on to the intermediate tyre when it started to rain slightly – which soon stopped soon causing for another pit stop to change the tyres. Lewis also had to serve a drive-through penalty. After Lewis had a spin, he did a 180 to face the right direction causing Paul Di Resta to swerve around Lewis by going off the track.

Big congratulations to Jenson. He pushed me hard and he deserved to win the race. I felt sorry for the team that we didn’t get a one-two, but at least one of us got the victory.

Lewis Hamilton qualified very well on Saturday and drove a supreme race in Germany on Sunday. It was an exciting race from start to finish with Hamilton, Alsonso and Webber in the leading group of cars. The highlight of the race was Hamilton overtaking Alonso around the outside of turn 2!

It was a must-see action packed race. If you missed it then catch the highlights on BBC iPlayer now! (UK only)

Every win is special – but with all the emotion, effort and energy the team put into today’s victory, this one feels even more special than usual.

Coming into this weekend, I said I’d take things one race at a time. So to win today is massively positive for us, but there’s a long way to go and it’ll be about consistency as well as speed from here on in.

Lewis Hamilton’s comments after qualifying:

First of all I want to say a huge congratulations to the whole team, who did a great job today. Everyone back at the factory and here at the circuit has been working massively hard, and that’s the reason why the car was so quick today. I think we all underestimated how good the car would be, in fact.

Before the end, I had to start saving fuel: you have to lift and coast, which means the brake temperatures drop. So I had no brakes, and that’s why I kept locking up. That allowed Mark [Webber] to slip ahead of me and meant I was defending from Felipe [Massa] in the closing laps.
