Hamilton Gets Payrise

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Lewis was granted a pay rise by leading the Formula 1 Championship mid-way.

Lewis Hamilton has been granted a pay-rise after reaching the middle of the 2007 season as F1’s championship leader. The impressive and ultra-consistent British rookie started the season with a modest retainer of about (US) $400,000 and a $10,000 per point bonus.

As of the British grand prix, then, he made his first million. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, however, a clause in his contract was triggered at Silverstone, the ninth round of the season.

As he passed the half-way point of 2007 at the very top of the drivers’ world championship, Hamilton automatically qualified for a cool $2.3m bonus. If he scores another 50 points in the remaining eight races this year, Hamilton’s initially paltry salary will have ballooned to nearly $4m ” disregarding any more contractual bonuses for possibly winning the title. Nice work if you can get it!

Euro Grand Prix: Hamilton Caught Up In Rain And Chaos

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Shortly after the race started it began pouring with rain and cars were sliding off the track with their dry tyres – especially at the first corner where the water was streaming down the hill. Unfortunately Lewis Hamilton also aquaplaned off the first corner and into the gravel as did Jenson Button amongst others.

The safety car was deployed and the race was stopped as the track was un-drivable. Incredibly enough Hamilton left his engine running and when the safely car came out he was lifted back onto the track where he was able to continue.

The safety car was coming in next lap as the pit lane opened and Lewis Hamilton pitted and took the gamble to go onto dry tyres, unfortunately it didn’t pay off as he slid off on his out lap and the track conditions were not appropriate for the dry tyre yet.

As the race got underway again Lewis was making good progress through the field, but then later on it started raining again and Lewis stayed on dry tyres as the rest of the field pitted for intermediates. But soon it was too wet for the dry tyre and Lewis finished ninth.
